Imagined Futures: Pu‘uokapolei
The Hawai‘i Triennial 2022 with MakeVisible seeks high school and college students in the West O‘ahu region to participate in Imagined Futures: Pu‘uokapolei, a virtual gallery designed to encourage students to imagine how the decommissioned military bunkers at Pu'uokapolei- a culturally significant place in the ahupua'a of Honouliuli- could be fully realized as a place for community and contemporary art. Join this call to submit original visual and/or written works to imagine what this future could look like. The virtual gallery welcomes projects based in art, storytelling, sustainability, culture, architecture, agriculture, etc.
Imagined Futures: Pu‘uokapolei will showcase creative excellence of young thinkers from the West O‘ahu region, encourage the understanding and enjoyment of visual art, and promote West O‘ahu's growing community of young innovators.
How can Pu‘uokapolei be given new life? How can this in turn reciprocate new life to the community through culture, art, sustainability, etc.?
Following the March 2022 opening at Kapolei Hale, the Imagined Futures: Pu‘uokapolei virtual gallery will open to showcase the works shown at Kapolei Hale as well as open the call to submission to further community engagement.
The hope is that Pu‘uokapolei can be an example for the continued nourishment of West O‘ahu's community and voice into the future.
